Forgetful Jones

Remember this guy? Forgetful Jones? We spent hours laughing at his silly forgetfulness on Sesame Street. Instead of an adorable cowboy, Forgetful Jones should have been a nearing-30 PR professional/English teacher who just can't seem to keep her head on straight. Within the last month, I have:

1. Left my camera charger in Pittsburgh (hence the lack of Thanksgiving pictures here. I had enough camera battery to take the pictures, but not enough to turn the camera on long enough to upload them).
2. Driven away from the gas pump with the door open and my cap off (the gas cap, that is).
3. Forgotten my husband's name (though only briefly, I swear).

The list goes on...and on. Maybe it's the stress of switching careers. Maybe it's the added stress of the holidays and an upcoming vacation. Maybe I just need to accept that my brain isn't as spot-on as it used to be (no comments from the peanut gallery, thank you very much).

1. Forgetting your camera charger is not a problem...that is a completely understandable error, seeing as though it was probably stuck in a discreet wall outlet and not in your bag. Happens to everyone.

2. Leaving the gas cap off / door open is not a sign of your mind breaking down...it's just a sign that you are a normal WOMAN.

3. Forgetting your hubby's name? This one is pretty bad. This should instantly add $100 or more to whatever amount you were going to spend on Matty this year.

Hey, at least you didn't drive off with the gas nozzle STILL IN THE CAR! I think we both know someone who did that (not me, though it wouldn't surprise me)

I'm going to put that charger in the mail tomorrow. I promise.

You know, I saw a car on my way home yesterday that had the gas cap off and door open. I took a look at the driver, just to see the gender. It was a man.

That was his wife's car. It was probably left open from when she last filled it up, and he got in on the other side. And when he asked her if he could borrow it, I'm sure he REMEMBERED HER NAME ;)

A very, VERY wise person once told me, "You have to remember (no pun intended) that as you get older, you have more life experience, and you will forget things, even seemingly trivial things [although I wouldn't put Matt's name in that], and you are bound to forget things--not because your memory is bad, but you just have so many things to forget." Yes, my dear, speaking from experience, I can tell you that happens--even more than we might care to admit! But think of the alternative!

Austin, your #1 IS a problem, because this is the second time in a matter of months that Rachel has done this... I had to mail her a replacement charger a few months back!

(Sorry, Rachel.)

You're right, Rebecca. There's no sense hiding from the truth. I think that's why old what's-his-name was so miffed.

And, for the record, I didn't technically forget Matt's name. I called him Barley, then stumbled over my words when I tried to correct myself.

Do you remember when you were younger? When we were talking to Cara, we'd always say, "Rache...Cara!" When Nana was talking to Uncle Craig, she'd say, "Carol, Lana, Craig." It's something that parents of all ilk have done forever. Barley is just one of your two kids!!! :-)
